Description
Toronto Centre of Learning & Development (TCL&D) in partnership with the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and the Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) enabled participants from the Immigrant Women Integration Program (IWIP) to undertake and lead four Community Based Participatory Action Research Projects. Their aim is that these four projects result in local changes that will lead to policy changes and greater awareness. The four identified projects include:
- Gender-Based Violence amongst African newcomer families in Rexdale, Toronto
- Challenges faced by newcomer youth (IWIP participants have identified mental health issues, inter-cultural communication, and others) in St-Jamestown, Toronto
- The Barriers to Accessing Post-Secondary Education faced by ESL immigrant Women
- Affordability and availability of childcare for middle eastern newcomer refugee families in Toronto
