In 2018, 79% of Canadians aged 15 years and older reported volunteering, either as part of an organization or on their own without the involvement of a group. Altogether, 24 million Canadians volunteered 2.5 million hours of their time to improve the health, well-being, education, and safety of our communities in 2018. Canadians were most likely to dedicate their formal volunteer hours to hospitals and religious organizations, sports and recreation, and arts and culture (over 100 hours per year, on average) (Statistics Canada, 2022)

Moreover, a previous Canadian study has shown that people who were involved in community activities in their childhood or adolescence have a greater tendency to become adults who are involved in more kinds of civic activities like formal and informal volunteering, political organizations, service clubs, community associations, and so on.

But how volunteering could help you to get a job in Canada?

Volunteering is a valuable activity for both volunteers and the community. It is an opportunity to develop new skills, gain new experience, meet new people and network. These were just a few benefits of volunteering. When someone is a newcomer in Canada, volunteering could help them to:

  • Building their network
  • Gaining Canadian experience
  • Meeting new people and finding a reference for their future job
  • Chance of finding an employment opportunity

April 16-22 is the national volunteer week in Canada to appreciate all the volunteer’s work. Start volunteering in your community and receives the rewarding benefits of it.

Happy National Volunteer Week.
