Amani Massoud is now a member of Immigrant Researchers Support Network (IRSN)
Mar 19, 2019

After moving to Canada from Egypt in 2017, I was selected as  an Immigrant Insight Scholar by Access Alliance in March 2019. I was placed at the Institute for Work & Health where I am currently working as a research associate on a project exploring the role of employers and settlement agencies in safely integrating newcomers into the workforce in Canada.

I hold a master's in public health from the University of Alexandria in Egypt and a master's in human rights from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. I have worked as a consultant for a number of international organizations, including the Fund for Global Human Rights and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Between 2009 and 2014, I was the deputy director for the Right to Health Program and, later, the director of human rights education and campaigns at the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights.

I have focused much of my work on health-related rights, including the rights of people living with HIV, the role of physicians and health professionals in promoting the right to health, violations to medical impartiality and violence in health-care settings. I am also a contributor to a number of online news outlets and magazines and, for the past two years, have served as an editorial board member of the iAM magazine, published by the Ontario Council for International Cooperation.
