CPHA is seeking a Community-based Research Associate to coordinate a community-based research grant funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) entitled Bridging lived/living and clinical expertise to address intersectional STBBI stigma: Validating a collaboratively developed experiential eLearning intervention. Reporting to Manager, Canadian Public Health Association, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing engagement with community members with lived and living experience as well as researchers, practitioners, professors and community-based organizations to inform the evaluation of CPHA’s existing online accredited learning course. This course, intended for family physicians and other care providers, focuses on promising practices for reducing stigma related to sexuality, substance use and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs). Based on feedback received through engagement with community, the Community-based Research Associate will be responsible for finalizing data collection tools, methodologies and consent processes. The successful candidate will also be responsible for overseeing the completion and evaluation of the online accredited course by university and/or college students across Canada, and for analysing evaluation data and summarizing key findings through knowledge translation tools and resources. 

The position requires someone who is passionate about reducing stigma related to sexuality, substance use and STBBIs, and who has previously been involved in community-based research. We are looking for someone with strong project management skills and an ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team as needed. Candidates applying for this position should have:
 

• A graduate degree (e.g., Master’s, PhD) in health or social sciences or a combination of education and several years’ relevant professional/personal experience 
• Past experience working in community-based research (e.g., experience working with community in the development of research protocols and data collection tools, experience facilitating conversations/focus groups with community members to inform the research design and implementation, data analysis experience)
• Familiarity with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis software
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• General knowledge of promising practices in sexual health, harm reduction and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBI) prevention, testing and treatment

This Community-based Research Associate position is a part-time contract extending from January 2024 – August 2025. It is anticipated that the deliverables associated with this contract will require approximately 10 hours per week over a period of 20 months. 

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $36.88-$42.80 (depending on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experiences) plus 4% vacation pay. The successful applicant will not be eligible for overtime payment or any other benefits as part of the Community-based Research Associate position. 

This position is virtual, with some work-related travel within Canada expected. 

The successful candidate will be provided with opportunities to present the research findings through conference presentation(s) and peer-reviewed publications (including authorship).
