The Program Lead supports the planning and delivery of HEC’s programs, collaborative education and improvement initiatives; conducts literature reviews and environmental scans, evaluation, and analysis (including data analysis and interpretation); prepares reports, briefing notes, and other program documents; and coordinates meetings and events.

Currently, there are positions available in the following programs:

Patient Safety, Equity & Engagement (Permanent Full-Time): The Patient Safety, Equity, and Engagement team (PSEE) is a collaborative team that aims to embed foundational and interrelated elements of patient safety, equity, and engagement into the work across Healthcare Excellence Canada (HEC) and to support capacity building in health systems across Canada. Working together with patients, caregivers, and communities, health providers and leaders, and other system partners, the PSEE team builds our work from ‘rethinking patient safety’, co-development of a Health Equity Framework, and guidance through a co-design process to embed consistent and meaningful engagement practices at HEC. We aim to build capacity across the health system related to safety, equity, and engagement through both internal and external opportunities, including the equity, diversity, and inclusion virtual learning exchange, and the development of resources and tools that will support meaningful engagement of people with lived and living experience. As a Program Lead on the PSEE team, you bring content knowledge and experience in the areas of equity-oriented and engagement with patients, caregivers, and communities. The Program Lead should have a desire to work collaboratively within the PSEE team and bring forward the intersections of patient safety, equity, and engagement in work across HEC.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Supports the project management of HEC’s programs, including design and delivery of project timelines, milestones, activities, tracking, and monitoring to ensure proper follow up and completion of deliverables.
  • Assists with the development of improvement resources, products and tools that facilitate the delivery of HEC’s improvement approach to its improvement teams and partners.
  • Supports, coordinates, or manages partnerships within HEC’s programs, including liaising with appropriate program staff, external teams and working with and coordinating with HEC finance and partnerships staff to develop partnership agreements/contracts.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of virtual events within the program area. As a member of the Virtual Event Production Surge Capacity team, may be called upon to support/deliver virtual events on behalf of other programs or teams in the planned or unplanned absence of a producer or where sufficient production support does not exist within a team.
  • Creates meeting agendas and materials; prepares HEC evidence summary products, reports, and other knowledge products.
  • Conducts ongoing environmental scanning in the healthcare improvement field to identify trends and developments in health system improvement.
  • Translates highly complex concepts in various ways and formats that can be understood by a variety of audiences
  • Works with evaluation staff to undertake team and program evaluation and reporting activities, including preparing and coordinating corporate reporting, program performance management, outcome mapping and project evaluation.
  • Coordinates meetings and events related to the programs, including invitations and participant lists, recording, and distributing meeting minutes, negotiating contracts for in-person workshop venues and associated services providers (e.g., simultaneous interpretation, catering, accommodations);
  • Works closely with senior staff and collaborate/share information with colleagues from across HEC in the design, implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of the programs.

Education and experience you will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare improvement, health policy, public health, epidemiology, community health, or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years progressive experience is required.
  • Bilingual in French and English is preferred (English communication skills at Advanced “C” level required).
