The Academics & Research Assistant will provide assistance to Research and Academic activities. The candidate will actively participate and assist with the implementation of clinical research projects. Experience in project management and writing research protocols and procedures as well as enhanced communication and interpersonal skills will be an asset. The Academics & Research Assistant will coordinate research studies and provide project support in accordance with the Hospitals’ and TCPS-2 Research Ethics policies.

The candidate will work with Dr Burhan’s research team which focuses on:

  • research involving older adults with and without dementia (e.g., patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease experiencing agitation, depression, or cognitive difficulties)
  • brain stimulation/neuromodulation techniques (e.g., transcranial magnetic stimulation, ketamine therapy) for patients with treatment resistant depression and other psychiatric issues.

Assistance in Research Projects includes:

  • Project coordination
  • Literature searches
  • Research Ethics Board applications
  • Grant applications
  • Participant recruitment and consenting/assenting
  • Administering data collection instruments/questionnaires/scales
  • Data entry and storage: Assist in the scanning of completed scales, coding of responses, keying of data, printing and compilation of data
  • Data analysis and report writing
  • Assist with maintaining departmental databases
  • Provide general office support including photocopying, mailing and faxing
  • Maintain the confidentiality of personal information in accordance with the hospital policy and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of Ontario (FIPPA)
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in health related field(Psychological and Health Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Mental Health Studies, Population Health, Clinical Research, Life Sciences)  (master’s degree an asset)
• Ability to adhere to research protocols and work with Research Assistants and Research Investigators to execute research      protocols
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to enable you to effectively interact with a variety of stakeholders
• Proficiency in the use of computer software packages (ex. Microsoft Office, databases, word processing)
• Sound knowledge of research processes and general office procedures
• Knowledge of SPSS/other statistical packages is considered an asset
• Knowledge of REB processes considered an asset

Contract- 6 Months (2 days per week, subject to the availability of Work) 

Work term is expected to be on-site at 2 locations: Whitby, Ontario and Mackenzie Health (Richmond Hill). There will be opportunity for some off-site (Remote) work

With possible extension  for this position to increase more than 2 days per week (depending upon additional work) within a few weeks of starting
