Job Description

An exciting temporary full-time (one year) opportunity as a Research Associate exists in the Women’s College Research Institute reporting to the Principle Investigator.

The successful candidate for this role will oversee and participate in a number of epidemiological and other research projects contributing to the under-researched, under-reported and frequently misunderstood issue that is sex trafficking. Sex trafficking is a growing concern in Canada--a billion-dollar industry that involves recruiting, harbouring, holding, or transporting victims, usually girls or women, to exploit them for sexual purposes.
This may include mixed methods studies (e.g. data collection, analysis and dissemination, planning stages of a research study), systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, and cost-effectiveness analyses).

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:

Data Collection, Analysis and Dissemination
• Performs high-level data analysis of qualitative and quantitative datasets including application of statistical analysis techniques using standard software packages (e.g., Dedoose, SPSS, Stata, SAS, R)
• Participate in code development, cleaning, and quality control exercises
• Draws conclusions for review and inclusion into final research reports
• Assists in interpretation of results and preparation of materials for presentation, publication and/or grants
• Interprets and analyses data to make effective recommendations for program direction
• Lead writing and submissions of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Coordination and planning
• Responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating all aspects of data collection and data sharing
• Participates partially or fully in initial project design, setting of research goals and the selection and development of procedures
• Explores new solutions for research program funding awards
• Conducts literature searches using PubMed, MEDLINE, or other health and social sciences databases

Scientific Planning
• Participates partially or fully in all stages of research study, including initial project design, setting of research goals and the selection and development of procedures
• Sets research goals and objectives in line with the hospital’s strategic priorities
• Explores research program funding awards and supports applications in high-value areas
• Utilizes study findings in the development and writing of grant proposals for new research activities

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in a related field, Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences, etc.
• Three (3) years of professional experience working in a research environment and/or an academic hospital
• Working knowledge of a standard data analysis software library (e.g. Dedoose, SPSS, SAS, STATA, or R) and relational database design
• Scientific writing skills, specifically, the ability to write and communicate effectively to scientific/technical audiences
• Strong knowledge of research methods and theory in health and/or social science research related discipline
• Detail-oriented with strong data analysis and interpretation skills
• Substantive knowledge in health and/or social science-related discipline to provide content expertise
• A proven track record of successful project management in a fast paced environment, with the ability to demonstrate excellent project performance including attention to client satisfaction, and adherence to budgets and timelines.
• Ability to consolidate and communicate high quality science clearly and imaginatively to different audiences
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential
• Computer competency including MS Access, MS Word, and MS Excel
• Knowledge of planning and management processes in health and/or social services research
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment with a wide variety of people at different levels
• Ability to take initiative and lead a diverse group of individuals
• Professional behavior and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
