Job Summary

Our research is applied and aims to investigate and test the implementation of promising policy ideas. We use the full spectrum of methodologies, including literature reviews, primary quantitative and qualitative studies, and policy analysis work in partnership with stakeholders such as community organizations, think tanks, government and universities.

We are seeking a full-time Researcher who will conduct two literature reviews on the social determinants of health and the incidence of diabetes, and what interventions have been used to address diabetes risk for South Asian and Black populations in Ontario. The literature review outputs will include research reports and a plain language report that will identify which specific social determinants are linked to both diabetes development and complications in each of the populations studied. While these projects will be core responsibilities for this Researcher position, the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to other projects at Wellesley Institute.

Key Qualifications

Successful applicants will have demonstrated:

  • Expertise in the social determinants of health, and health equity
  • Expertise in systematic and scoping literature reviews, data visualization, data management
  • Experience with primary and secondary analysis of health data, community and social services data
  • Knowledge of academic and grey literature related to health and health equity needs, the social determinants of health, and the incidence of and complications related to diabetes for populations across Ontario
  • Sophisticated knowledge of at least one common statistical analysis package (e.g. SAS, Stata, R)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines among multiple tasks.
  • A collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to research

Ideally, a successful applicant would also have:

  • Relevant work history in tracking health issues and the social determinants across populations
  • A proven record of communicating quantitative research findings to non-specialist audiences, especially policymakers
  • Experience with mixed research methods
  • The ability to work successfully with communities, and as part of a team.

General Information

We are located in downtown Toronto. This is an on-site position. We are currently working a hybrid of onsite/remote but may return to on-site only.

Starting Salary Range

$70,000 – $80,000 plus benefits
