Brief Description of Practicum Project:

With guidance and supervision of the Community Health Worker – Newcomer Initiatives. The student will assist and support the LGBTQ+ Program planning, implementation, data and administrative tasks and management, and facilitation.

Sort and call participants to make sure their client registration form is adequately complete, manage the program drop in volunteers, ensure that the drop-in day runs smoothly, design and development of program communication tools and outreach materials, and other duties as needed.

The student will work in an environment of access, equity, anti-racism, and anti-oppression framework.

Qualifications/Competencies Required:

  • Post-secondary education in any discipline of Social Sciences /Health Science or equivalent at University/ College Intermediate level skills working with Excel
  • Experience with working with ethno-culturally diverse populations in Toronto
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of team
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office Suites
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with crisis and conflict, and to maintain appropriate boundaries
  • Ability to travel among the different Access Alliance offices in Toronto and to work in the evening working hours as relevant.
  • Familiarity with online tools, such as Canva, is an asset
