The Knowledge Translation (KT) Program at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's Hospital is currently looking for a full time (1.0 FTE, one-year contract) Research Coordinator I to join the dynamic and growing team. The successful candidate will manage both select research initiatives and lead the development and dissemination of all internal and external knowledge products including various print and electronic media for both lay and special audiences.

Reporting to the Research Program Manager for the Team for Implementation, Evaluation and Sustainability (TIES), the candidate will engage key stakeholders utilizing an integrated Knowledge Translation (KT) lens to disseminate health-related information/interventions tailored to academic or public audiences in order to maximize implementation and adoption. The candidate will need to have experience in design/communications best practices in order to synthesize evidence-based guidelines or research evidence and create plain-language summaries, conduct usability testing/focus groups, tailor messaging to reach specific knowledge users (researchers, clinicians, patients, caregivers, decision-makers) and develop appropriate messaging for diverse groups. Experience in using an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) lens to dissemination will be an asset. The candidate will actively work with our research teams across projects to develop activity-specific, evidence-based KT/dissemination strategies as well as provide broader KT/dissemination-strategies for the KT Program. Candidates will be asked to submit examples of products tailored to specific audiences that they created in their work history.

Candidates with experience in in the health communications field with a strong interest in evidence dissemination and implementation will be prioritized. The position requires working with a large number of stakeholder groups; therefore, excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conceptualize, create, and write high-quality, innovative KT products and content

• Tailor KT products to a variety of print and electronic platforms including all common social media platforms; developing and deploying e-newsletters; and other web-based content.

• Support the work of colleagues by developing accessible graphic and visual KT products, using the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards, that are data-driven for diverse audiences, including infographics, posters, and other knowledge resources, including yearly summary reports.

• Coordinate research activities in collaboration with team (including general project management, timelines and deliverables)

• Coordinate participant recruitment, scheduling, and conduct of qualitative interviews and focus groups for KT product usability testing and language back-translation

• Liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders at local and international levels, including functioning as an expert in user-oriented design

• Monitor the progress of project activities; develop and maintain records of project activities and prepare periodic reports as required by investigators, administrators, funding agencies, and/or regulatory bodies

• Supports project growth and development, anticipating issues and creating action plans

• Maintain data documentation, physical and logical storage of records, in accordance with hospital policies and relevant privacy regulations

• Collaborate with team members to write and edit presentations, reports, proposals, and publications

• Supports team members through capacity building and coaching

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Science, social science, humanities, marketing and/or communication degree and minimum 1 year of work experience engaging knowledge users by disseminating health-related information/research is required

• Master’s Degree in Health Sciences, Public Health, Social Sciences, Health/Research Communications, Health Policy, or related field combined with 1 year of relevant experience, preferably in knowledge translation preferred.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate advanced academic/clinical material to a number of different audiences, including clinicians and the public.

• Expertise in plain language writing and translating complex concepts into accessible formats

• Meticulous attention to detail and capable of independent decision-making

• Ability to prioritize and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner

• Excellent organizational skills, time management, and project coordination skills are required

• Ability to adapt to changes in project direction and think strategically and creatively

• Ability to work both in a diverse team environment and independently

• Demonstrated experience with creative knowledge translation (KT) products is an asset

• Applied knowledge of communication/marketing strategies, theoretical principals, and digital media content development is an asset

• Experience in a healthcare related setting is an asset

• Experience in conducting qualitative interviews is an asset

• Experience with engaging patients and community members in research is an asset

• Preference will be given to candidates who have experience that includes video editing and production, web-based content management systems (e.g. SharePoint, HTML), Adobe software and new media production methods, e-publishing software (e.g. MailChimp), analytics software (e.g. Google analytics), YouTube, social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, HootSuite) and graphic design programs (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud).
